Brief Thoughts: Dumb and Dumber To

Rated PG-13
110 minutes
Directed by The Farrelly Brothers

There's something strange about seeing these characters again after so long. These characters are iconic by being so dumb. They are products of the 90's. And maybe they should've stayed there. Now don't get me wrong, there are pretty funny cutaways, and there were good sight-gags. The so called controversies about the film aren't really necessary, as it's just how the characters are in the universe. However, the characters aren't really in the movie.

The characters are somewhat there, but I don't think that they were completely captured. The antics that Harry and Lloyd get in to are somewhat like what they got into in the first movie, but the motivations aren't really there. In the first movie, Harry and Lloyd were utterly stupid, but they were well-meaning. In this movie, they are still stupid, and they are still somewhat sweet, but there's an underlying mean-spiritedness in it's action.

The movie's funny enough to recommend, as there are a few funny bits, but it's somewhat disconnected from the first one. I think that when detached from the first one, it's funny enough, but when compared with the first one, it falls flat.

3/5
