Brief Thoughts: Thor: The Dark World

Brief Thoughts: Thor: The Dark World

Rated PG-13
120 minutes
Directed by Alan Taylor

I'm going to be brief with this, since I don't really have much to say. It wasn't a good movie; but, it was a somewhat enjoyable experience. The jokes hit rather well in places, even though some were just filler, like one doctor running naked in Stonehenge. The acting was fine, I guess. Chris Hemsworth did a serviceable job, and Tom Hiddleston was quite enjoyable as Loki. One of my main problems with this is that it didn't balance out the screen time correctly. The Warriors 3 and Sif had nothing to do this time around, as opposed to last time, when they were given a fair amount to do. We'd go onto Earth, then go up to Asgard, then, when you've forgotten that Earth is an entity in the film, we get jarringly thrown back to Earth. This movie also sticks to a formula to a tee, and doesn't feel new or exciting. I even made up some of the checklist for Marvel films.

1. Have some (serviceable) humor.
2. Have dramatic speeches about science that convince the audience that your movie's smart.
3. Have stuff blow up

In conclusion, this is another entry into the metal machine that is Marvel. You can watch it for a good laugh or 2, but in the end, don't expect anything different.

2.5/5
